Applicants must be fluent in both English and Lao and possess proven written and oral communication skills in both languages. You will need to have very good interpersonal and liaison skills and have the ability to communicate effectively. The successful applicant will have well-developed organisational skills, experience working in an office environment and/ or be a university graduate preferably in a related field and be computer literate. She/he will also have initiative, be able to focus on priorities, meet deadlines and work well in a team situation with limited supervision. An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate based on experience and qualifications. CARE International in Lao PDR
 Health Specialist: 3-6 month contract
CARE Laos seeks to employ a Health Specialist, experienced Lao Nationalin Phongsaly Province, Khua, Mai and Samphan Districts. CARE offers staff competitive salaries and excellent benefits, in particular since this is a temporary contract.
In Phongsaly, CARE’s integrated rural development program works in maternal, reproductive and child health, food security, poverty alleviation, water and sanitation, and livelihoods development. The MCH project works with:  1) District Health Offices of Khua, Mai and Samphan to support health systems strengthening. 2) Remote communities to improve access to maternal, child and reproductive health services.

The Health Specialist will be involved in implementation of health related activities, particularly taking the lead on supporting reproductive health activities. S/he will work with the DHOs to provide technical support to community based health actors, such as community based distributors (CBD) of contraceptives and village health volunteers (VHV).
                                                                            
This position reports to the Phongsaly Health Project Manager and will receive technical support from the Women’s Program Coordinator.  The position is available immediately.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Nursing or medical degree related or relevant educational background and/or experience.
  • Experience working with NGOs withtechnical knowledge on maternal and reproductive health
  • Ability to speak and understand Akha or Kh’mu is highly valued.
  • Willing to spend time in remote areas working with poor communities, engaging directly in activities.
  • Previous experience working with community health actors would be valuable
  • Good communications skills, including negotiation skills, interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for beneficiaries.
  • Be highly organized,honest, responsible, self motivated and creativityand able to take initiative under minimum supervision.
·         Ability to work under pressure at times, while maintaining high quality results is an essential requirement.
  • Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team in diverse professional backgrounds.
  • Able to drive a motorbike and has a current license
